What is grace…

Webster defines it as “basically” unmerited favor from God…
Meaning God gives it to us by no works or effort of our own.

When I asked my students last year what they thought grace was, I would get varying answers but some of them would say that’s what you say before you eat…
And even though I knew most of these were “smart” answers, I came to realize…some of them did not really know grace. Probably some had never experienced it in their own lives…

But I have…

I have lived a life of pleasure and selfishness before.
Where I didn’t want God because I thought I didn’t need Him.
So I just rejected Him…pushed Him far, far away.
In most circumstances when we are treated that way by others and rejected, we turn our pride on and say I hate them or “well forget them”.

But not God…

My students and fellow faculty at Gilmer High School raised enough money through the selling of water to repair a whole well for a village. A whole well.
That well will provide clean drinking water to the village of samjoni and it’s 2000 + residents for 5-10 years.
After that trip one of my best students told me I was one of the kindest, most caring people she knew and she aspired to be more like me.  Not so…
If not for grace. You see…if not for grace, I would still be that prideful, self-absorb, selfish person I was back before…

But Grace…

Grace.
When you read the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15, you’ll see that the father in the story (God) ran to the lost son when he saw him far off. He did not wait, he did not gloat, he did not say, “what do you want?” or “I told you so”. He said…”For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is FOUND”.

What we are doing in February will undoubtedly be the hardest thing I have ever done. We are climbing a series of five mountains (stratovolcanos ;))in February, finishing with Mount Cotopaxi 19,347 feet and Mount Chimborazo 20,549 feet making it the highest mountain from the center of the earth! (because of the ellipsoidal nature of the earth, Everest is highest in elevation from sea level.-ask me sometime about it 😉 )

My goal is to raise $10,000 which will fix 8 villages wells in Malawi. This will provide clean water for around 16,000 people with water for at least 5-10 years! Each well costs $1,250 to fix. Maybe God has placed it on your heart to provide a whole village with clean water. Has He? I went to Africa in 2015 and last summer and I can attest… the problem is real. Child Legacy also provides the Living Water of Christ (John 4) at every well repair.
So climbing these mountains WILL be the hardest things I have ever done, but it does not compare with the challenges Malawians face on a daily basis getting clean water or suffering the consequences from the lack thereof. So…please pray and consider it…even a little bit. If every person I know gave a few dollars…we could do it.
As always…NONE of your donations go to my trip or climb expenses! That’s on me!  I usually give an amount too….so you know I have skin in the game.

These people need help…
They need clean water…
They need you…

And if you are in need of Grace today…ask Him.
