I’m excited to be participating in Child Legacy International’s Clean Water Climb as part of the American Summit Climb Team this year.  I have the wonderful opportunity to raise money for an amazing cause and to do it while getting to enjoy the great outdoors and pushing myself to accomplish something I’ve never done before.  That wonderful cause is to provide clean water wells to villages in Malawi, Africa that don’t have access to clean water.  Having helped drill clean water wells in other countries for villages that didn’t have access to clean water, I saw firsthand the need for and impact of readily available clean water.  It is something we take for granted here but is a life or death issue in other parts of the world.  Malawi has over 2.4 million people without access to safe water, and over 5,300 children are dying every year from water-borne illness and disease alone.

This is a problem that we can do something about!  So, I’m thrilled to be able to raise money and awareness for Child Legacy International to repair clean water wells in Malawi.  On August 1st, I’ll be headed to Colorado to climb 2 ‘14ers’.  A 14er is a mountain that is has a peak higher than 14 thousand feet in elevation.  And not only is this my first climb, but I’ll be attempting to climb the 2 tallest mountains in Colorado, Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive.  These mountains are large and are a great representation of the enormity of the water problem in Malawi, Africa.  But just as we can summit these mountains, we can also help overcome the water problem in Malawi.

You can support and partner with me in this effort in 2 ways.  First, by praying for me and the team on this climb: for safety, for strength, for endurance. Second, by donating to help repair water wells to provide clean water to the people in Malawi.  All money donated will go directly to Child Legacy International for repairing water wells.  None of the money will go to me or any trip costs, as we will fund the climb ourselves.

A well repair costs $1,250. And each well provides clean water for about 2,100 people!! I’m attempting to raise $2,500 (and would love to raise more) which would provide for the repair of 2 clean water wells that would provide clean water for thousands in Malawi.

How amazing is it that we can provide for such a critical and basic need for so many at such a relatively small cost?  Jesus tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves (Mark 12:30-31) and what a great way for us to do so by providing life-giving, clean water.  I hope you would partner with me as we raise money to love the people in Malawi in the name of Christ, in a tangible way that provides for their immediate and critical need for life-giving, clean water.
