Hello, we are the Shaw’s and we are climbing Mt Harvard together.
John E Shaw Jr, John W Shaw and Jonathan Trace Shaw. I bet you didn’t guess that the Junior is the oldest one of the bunch! We are three generations and excited to partner and participate in this clean water climb up Mt Harvard in Colorado to help fund and support the beautiful work being done in Malawi.
I (John W Shaw) remember being on a mission trip and helping to install a utility sink and the mother of the family asked, very innocently to my wife, “do you have a sink in your home?” My wife had to excuse herself for a moment because of the perspective of privilege that flooded through her, and me as well. Very emotional. I couldn’t help but start counting the access we had to numerous sinks in our home. These sinks represent our ever-present source of water. What grace we are receiving that we have such blessing and access. In Malawi, many don’t even have sinks but man-made holes they are pulling dirty unclean and unsanitary water.
We are climbing in an effort to raise money and awareness for the people of Malawi and help them gain access to clean water. We have committed to climbing Mt. Harvard, in Colorado (14,421 ft) this July. Mt. Harvard is the fourth highest summit in the contiguous United States and going to take 4 days to acclimate and reach the summit. All money raised will go directly to building and repairing water wells in Malawi. All donations are tax-deductible. It costs $1,250 to repair a single well.
We read in scripture that Jesus calls us to things that matter (feed the hungry, cloth the naked, give water to the thirsty, take care of the orphan and the widow.) As followers of Jesus, we want to respond to this in serving our world. This effort to climb is so that we can help give water to the thirsty.
We are hoping that with three Shaw’s and your support, we hope to triple the support for three wells. If you feel you can donate, any amount will help this worthy cause. This is the link to the donation webpage.
