I am thrilled, blessed, and honored to be joining the Clean Water Climb team on the June 2018 adventure.
Many of you may may realize that I had intended to participate in this event last September, but Hurricane Harvey changed all of that. I was one of the individuals in Houston who experienced a flooded home, and unfortunately that flooding set in just 2 days before the team’s departure to Africa. Given the timing, I was unable to join the team in 2017 but am excited to be part of such a wonderful cause this year. It seems like God had some slightly different plans than I did and wants to use me in Malawi this year. I look forward to the adventure.
I made my first journey to Malawi, Africa in August, 2008 to help construct a well site to provide clean water for a village, and fell in love with the people there. Their passion for live seems to be far beyond what many of us live in our daily lives. They have so little, but love so abundantly that it becomes compelling to use our resources to help them increase their standard of living as Jesus would encourage us to.
This September, the team is climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise funds in partnership with Child Legacy International (CLI). CLI’s emphasis is centered around helping the impoverished nation of Malawi through a focus on providing HealthCare, Education, Agriculture, and Clean Water. Those basics of life, which we all take for granted, can literally give life when they’re present, or take life when they’re absent.
I grew up in Scouts and still deeply cherish all of the campouts and wilderness time that were such a big part of my childhood. Hiking, camping, and climbing feel like they’re in my DNA. Combining my love of the outdoors, the love of the Malawi people, and the opportunity to live beyond myself, to truly make a difference in the lives of others, is what I call a win-win-win situation. Jesus calls us to wisely use our time and our treasure and I can’t think of any better way to do that than to be part of such an impactful event!
If you’re passionate about making a lasting difference in this world by directly improving the lives of those in need, I would value any contribution that you can make to our climb. At a minimum, I have a goal of raising $5,000. Help me reach that goal and far surpass it! Please note, that I am personally funding the actual trip myself, so any contribution that you make goes directly to the support of this wonderful mission. Your contribution WILL make a difference!
