Helping other people in the world that are suffering is what God has called us to do.  After meeting Mike and learning of the Clean Water Climb’s ambition and goals we felt it was a mission we could see ourselves getting involved with.   There are a lot of missions and causes that one can get behind.  For some reason both Robin and I felt that this was what we should be doing.  It is also the one that takes me out of my comfort zone the most.

I cannot imagine what it must be like to live in a state where I would have to walk more than 30 ft for fresh water much less miles each day just so I could live.  The efforts the people in Malawi must go through just to survive day to day much less make progress is huge.  Being able to serve them by raising funds to help repair water wells is a small part of meeting the needs of the people of Malawi.  It would be an honor to be able to help them in this way.   For each $1000 raised, a well could be repaired and would impact a whole village.

The connection between clean water and health is obvious — today, about 300 million people in Africa lack clean drinking water and about 1 million of those people will die from diseases associated with unclean water this year.  These diseases include diarrhea, typhoid fever, malaria, and intestinal worms.  Currently 85% of Malawi’s 16.62 million people live in a rural lifestyle and 63% lack clean drinking water.  Essentially all of those rural households commit six hours every day fetching water that still may not be clean.  Properly functioning water wells have an immediate and lasting effect on the day to day lives of the community not only allowing them to obtain water close to their home but also preventing sickness that can debilitate the village.
Currently about 7500 water wells require repair in Malawi.  This number was estimated to be more than 10,000 before CLI began working there in 20008.  A $1 donation equates to clean, safe drinking water for 2 people for about 8 years.
To help provide more clean water, we will personally match 25% of all donations.  All Clean Water Climb donations, including those made to the American Summit chapter, go directly to well repairs in Malawi.

To be a part of a cause to help raise money for repairing water wells to meet the needs of millions of people that suffer from lack of clean water which is again a small part of the big needs of the people of Malawi that the Child Legacy international program is trying to address is an honor.  To be able to raise funds so for this so that Child Legacy can divert other income to fight child mortality, healthcare, food programs, education, etc to help break the cycle of poverty in Malawi is the least Robin and I can do.
