Friends, Family and Donors
My name is Sherri Lathrop. I am a retired educator who worked in education for 26 years. I taught High School Biology for 16 of those years before moving to Administration at Central Office where I had the opportunity to work with amazing science teachers from all over the district. I love nature and the outdoors so this opportunity really peaked my interest. I first learned about Child Legacy through My brother Kevin Talley and my Sister-in-law Lesa when they participated in the 2013 Clean Water Climb.
My world was changed dramatically on September 8, 2016 when I lost my husband of 44 years. My relationship with God and tons of love from my family an friends helped me through this loss. Since then I have had to grow way outside my comfort zone. In 2017 I met a lovely Christian lady through a group that I walked with. Mary was 85 and she had decided to hike a section of the Appalachian trail. Her description of that experience made me want to experience it for myself. I mentioned my desire to hike the trail to my brother Kevin over dinner one evening and he told me about the Clean Water Climb along the Appalachian trail.
Since I have a lifelong passion for helping children and, an interest in developing a closer relationship with God I have decided to participate in the 2019 Appalachian trail hike. I will be hiking 74 miles of rugged terrain in The Great Smoky Mountains.
What does this symbolize? Malawians have to walk miles (depending on the water source) to get clean water each and every day. The miles and terrain we hike on the A.T. is nothing compared to the miles walked for such a basic human right.
By partnering with the Clean Water Climb Team and Child Legacy, you can help bring water to hundreds of thousands of Malawians!
