“I lift my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. “ PSALM 121:1-2
That verse was continuously on my mind, beginning at midnight as we headed up the final climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The Summer of 2013 was my first direct experience with the Clean Water Climb (CWC) and Child Legacy International. I went to Malawi to visit the Child Legacy site and worked with a group of friends to repair water wells in nearby villages.
I saw the impacts of polluted water and the burden of retrieving water from alternate sources. I experienced the joy and gratitude of the people of a Malawian village when water flowed again from a well that hadn’t been working for years. I knew then my commitment to help was the right decision.
Reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro happened at the end of that excursion to Africa, but it was only the beginning of my support for the on-going work to bring clean water to the people of Malawi through CWC and Child Legacy International. In February of 2019, I returned to the mountains and pursued a series of summits in Ecuador peaking at a final summit over 20,000 feet. It was a humbling experience as I failed to reach the highest peaks that year.
In 2024, I will return to South America for my fourth CWC climb in Patagonia, all for the purpose of bringing awareness and support for people in need of clean water. The well repair teams we support will also bring the Gospel to the people of the villages in Malawi. This is the Clean Water Climb.
I invite you to join me in supporting Child Legacy International’s work to repair water wells in Malawi, helping to stop water borne illness that comes from polluted water and relieving the burden that comes from long treks to alternate water sources. Your contributions, prayers and support are appreciated.
