Greetings!
It’s amazing to look back at how I have arrived at this opportunity to help raise funds to provide clean water for people on the other side of the world. I guess the journey began over 30 years ago when I heard Child Legacy founder, Jeff Rogers on Malcolm Smith’s radio show speaking of his mission to help bring water and medical help to an area that was desperately in need of both. He spoke with such passion and conviction that I was moved to begin to support the outreach immediately, and have had the honor to continue to partner with them for all of these years. Though we have never met, we consider Jeff and Karen to be old friends and we have taken great joy in seeing all that the Lord has accomplished through them.
As for me, I have spent the last 36 years working in the wholesale gift industry as Debbie and I raised our three sons (Travis, Caleb, and Isaac). During a family vacation to Maine about 10 years ago, we climbed Mt. Katahdin – and I found a new passion in life. It’s hard to explain the joy that comes with an early start on the trail – pushing on to the summit, and then reflecting on the day as you descend into the approaching night. Though my sons are grown now, hiking together is still something we all enjoy and we make an annual trip back to Maine every October to once again visit Mt. Katahdin.
I now have the honor of serving as the pastor of Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church in Kittanning, PA and my congregation likes to tease me about my passion for the mountains. Needless to say, there are lots of climbing related analogies in my sermons. I am very excited to bring two of my great passions in life together – at least now when they ask me why I do it, I will have a good reason! I am happy to have my good friend Mike DiLauro joining me on this adventure! He loves to hike and has embraced the opportunity to bring purpose to our climb.
Our first trek with Clean Water Climb is a beauty – the lower Great Range of the Adirondack Mts. in upstate New York. We will start well before sunrise, cover roughly 17 miles and summit five of the 46 legendary high peaks in the Adirondack region, gaining over 5,000 feet of elevation. By the time we finish, we will have seen much of the beauty of God’s creation, and felt Him strengthening us to accomplish our goal. No doubt that it will be a day to remember. We are hoping to receive enough support to repair two wells (a total of $2,500). Please be assured that all of the money pledged will go directly to Child Legacy, none of it will be used to cover the costs involved in the climb. If now is not a good time to donate, we certainly understand, and we would ask you to consider supporting us with your prayers – we will certainly need them!
Many blessings to you and yours!
