My name is George Lawrence Lyimo. My friends call me Bruce. I am married and have two children. I work for Zara Tours and my job is to safely take clients up Mt. Kilimanjaro every year. I started as a porter in 2002 and became a guide in 2004. I have climbed Kilimanjaro more than 400 times.
I met Mike Navolio in 2012 on his second Kilimanjaro trek. He brought his daughter and friends with him. They were raising funds for clean water in Malawi, our neighboring country to the south of Tanzania, through Child Legacy International. He told me they called it the Clean Water Climb. We became good friends and I have now taken Mike every year with over 130 of his friends on a total of 14 Kilimanjaro Clean Water Climbs. The Clean Water Climb has now raised over $4,000,000 since it began in 2011.
Last year, I had the opportunity to go to Malawi for the first time with Mike and his team to meet Child Legacy and see their work. I had a tour of their sustainability project, and I went out with the team to help repair broken water wells and see the rejoicing firsthand. I also got to see a brand-new church plant near where Child Legacy’s project is.
This year Mike is coming again with his team, and I will be going to Malawi again after the trek to help with Child Legacy’s work. This year I am helping raise funding for Child Legacy’s water well repair work. Since each well costs approximately $1250 to repair, I would like to raise enough to repair 4 wells (one for each of my family) or $5000. Please consider contributing to support my goal through my fundraising link. Thank you and God bless you.
