Hello, my name is Aji Varghese. I am taking on another big challenge this year— climbing TEN of Colorado’s Mountains, which reach over 14,000 feet! I am aiming to raise funds to repair broken water wells for the people of Malawi, Africa. Yes, it is the same charity for which I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2017.
During these troubled times, this is a great opportunity to continue to help others during a milestone year for me. It is a smaller group and we will be practicing safety precautions for Covid-19. As a person who has survived many obstacles in my life with God’s guidance, I am sure the Almighty Lord will give me strength to take on this challenge as well. I am truly excited to be a part of this group adventure!
On a personal level, I came to this wonderful land of United States in 1982 from India. My professional life included working as an Information Technology consultant at various places, including Shell oil company, JP Morgan, and Andersen consulting. The desire to help others directed me to attend nursing school and join the wonderful MD Anderson Registered nurses who take care of the post-surgery patients with gastrointestinal cancers. I am also a trained yoga teacher. Currently I focus on weekly volunteering especially for Meals on Wheels, real estate ventures, and working out. I am blessed with two wonderful children-Jonathan, who currently works in Massachusetts and Julie, who is in her second year at South Texas Law school.
You might ask why the water project in Malawi, Africa? Like many parts of the world, people in Malawi don’t have direct access to clean water. According to the latest UNICEF report, water-borne diarrheal diseases are the second largest killer of children under 5 years in Malawi. This is just my small effort to help solve this critical issue!
Your donations make a huge impact!! For each dollar that is donated, 1-2 people will receive clean water for 5 years! $1250 provides an entire village with clean water. Your donations are NOT going towards my trip cost and every penny goes to Child Legacy International, a nonprofit organization with a 95/100 overall score from its monitoring organization, charitynavigator.org.
Thank you for supporting my goal with your prayers and your donations!
